Hoff's in the House...But Why?

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Fri, 02/29/2008 - 10:00am

Former Baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff has won a court order to return to his family home to retrieve certain possessions that were apparently worth, to him, an extra few visits to court.

So, what couldn't the Hoff live without?

Among the items listed were: an antique barber's chair, an ivory tusk, a statue of a dolphin, a model elephant, and some baseball memorabilia. I guess he already has his Baywatch float in his new digs.

Hoff and his ex Pamela Bach's divorce was settled in December, tying up loose ends like spousal and child support, and custody issues of the couple's two daughters. The two share custody, though any monetary details of the split were not released.

I suppose this is just more evidence of boys becoming rather attached to their toys.

Celebrity Splits Roundup

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Fri, 02/08/2008 - 10:00am

Here's a rundown of the latest in celebrity divorce. Just the thing to get you through those last ticking hours at work!

In British news, Cheryl Cole, a singer in the group Girls Aloud, may be divorcing her soccer hubby Ashley Cole after discovering that he slept with a hairdresser and offered her money to have an abortion. Originally, after these first claims were made, she said she'd stick by her husband, but other women have come forward since then claiming they too have slept with him. He has reportedly begged her to come back, but she remains away from the family home in an undisclosed location and refuses to speak to him. Sounds like this one will be over before you can say World Cup.

Coming back over to our side of the ocean, Dina Matos McGreevey and former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey (pictured here) are in court yet again for their messy, ongoing divorce. Dina had petitioned the court for full and broad access to Jim's partner's financial holdings, claiming that the couple's money was intertwined, and as such she had a right to see what he owned and possessed. The courts agreed in part, saying that the three joint bank accounts the gay couple share are up for view, but Mark O'Donnell's salary, stocks, and other various financial dealings are not to be revealed for court scrutiny.

Dina and Jim are still attempting to hammer out child support and custody issues, with Dina apparently trying to get every cent that she can. I must say it's hard to blame her. Most women would probably be rather angry to have their husband come to them after years of marriage and a child born and say they're gay. As long as she doesn't go all Heather Mills, she'll probably have a good shot at custody and a chunk of his cash.

Big Man, Big Money

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 10:00am

After months of stalling and delays, Shaquille O'Neal has finally released a detailed statement of his finances to be considered in his divorce from wife, Shaunie. This girl is gonna clean up good.

Monthly, Shaq averages an income of $1.8 million from his NBA salary, endorsements, and investments, and he spends around $900,000 on his expenses. That's per month.

Only $20,000 of that sum is temporary child support and alimony, with another $25,000 in general child care. The really stunning part is that he didn't release all the information.

Whether he's withholding on other expenditures or other cash reserves is unknown, but he did refuse to list his net worth. Shaunie has filled out a similar form detailing her income and expenses, and lists hers at $30 million, including their real estate.

Remember, this whole thing started because Shaq accused Shaunie of being secretive about money and spending without his knowledge. I'm not sure what she was buying that was expensive enough for him to notice, but it must have been expensive.

Lawyers speculate that Shaunie will probably not receive any type of permanent alimony, but that the children will be receiving a lot more in terms of support once the divorce is finalized. Odds are she will have primary custody since he's on the road so much.

Let's hope Shaq keeps his earnings a bit higher than his scoring record this season.

Hulk Saw It Coming

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Fri, 01/25/2008 - 10:00am

In divorce proceedings, it seems like the more money you have, the longer it will drag on. Of course, celebrity marriages have quite a knack for staying around and quibbling over houses, savings, spousal support and child support.

Hulk Hogan's divorce is starting along no differently. His estranged wife Linda Bollea claims that her beefy hubby sold their Miami home and put the profits away into accounts she's unable to access. She also says that he tried to get her to sign a post-nuptial agreement — her main motivating factor for going ahead with the divorce.

Linda has filed some documents requesting that the judge take action and bar the Hulkster from spending or tucking away any more of the money made on the house's sale. She also claims that he engaged in some suspicious behavior over the past year in regard to their finances.

Apparently, he saw this coming, or he was intending on making the same move himself. Either way, the battle has now begun.

McCartney is Singing A Different Tune

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Wed, 01/23/2008 - 10:00am

Sometimes if it weren't for the last minute, we'd get nothing done at all. Paul McCartney is utilizing this incredibly useful bit of time for himself as well, as he is apparently opening up to the prospect of settling with ex Heather Mills out of court.

The seemingly sudden change of heart could have been foreseen with the birthday gifts he bought for her, and it leaves many wondering why he's singing a different tune now that their court date is mere weeks away and Heather has already had to sell her home in order to cope with her mounting financial obligations.

Mills and McCartney have spoken several times on the phone over the past week or so, with a source claiming it's the most they've said to one another in months.

Now, a reconciliation isn't even being considered as a possibility, but what is much more likely and speculated is that Paul is simply worried about what will come out in the trial. Heather's ready to fire, and the main theme of her argument seems to be that before she married him she was likeable and employable, and had her own career and income, but now she's been painted as a hate figure because she's divorcing him, which has damaged her employability.

I think her attitude and the many disastrous interviews she held might be a factor, but maybe that's just me.

Paul also says he is concerned about how all this will affect his daughter. Whether it's the trial, the constant media attention, or even the things Heather has hinted at that he thinks will be most damaging is not confirmed.

If he's willing to talk it out at this point, though, considering how thoroughly she's damaged her own case by talking to the media, she must have something on him.

Cartier Doesn't Heal All Wounds

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Wed, 01/16/2008 - 11:00am

Apparently Heather Mills' good graces aren't for sale, as Paul McCartney found out recently.

In an attempt to improve their current frosty relationship, Sir Paul bought his ex over $15,000 worth of birthday gifts, including a Cartier watch, gift certificates to Harvey Nichols and a framed picture of the two of them drawn by their daughter, Beatrice. All this was accompanied by a note with wishes that the two of them could remain friends despite the ugly divorce.

How she reacted to the gifts is anyone's guess, but considering she's just recently sold her home to pay off her astronomical legal debts, the gifts probably served little purpose than to infuriate her.

Heather was reportedly having Paul tailed just before Christmas, hoping her bodyguards could catch footage of him while he was drunk. She thought this might help her in her bid to gain sole custody of their daughter, but Paul hasn't been drinking since his heart operation a few months ago. Upon finding out about this, Heather was apparently none too pleased.

Their next hearing to finalize the terms of their divorce and custody is slated to take place later this month. Whether it all gets set in stone is anyone's guess, but I'm sure Heather will be ready with something that she's sure will bring her ex-hubby's dollars — and her daughter — back to her.

Slam Dunk For Easy Money

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 11:00am

Shaquille O'Neal apparently has some game he doesn't want anyone finding out about.

The basketball star filed for divorce against wife Shaunie in September, claming the marriage was irretrievably broken. He even accused his now-estranged wife of covert measures with their finances and insisted upon a full examination of her expenditures.

Shaunie must know something that Shaq wouldn't want to be public, though. Lately, Shaq has changed his tune a bit, saying he will hand over whatever documentation his wife wants just as long as she signs a confidentiality agreement.

Now, what these papers pertain to is anyone's guess. It can't be anything favorable for Shaq's image though, if he's insisting on the gag order. The divorce court papers even read "he will produce all documents in his possession, custody and control". How's that for quick and easy service?

Shaunie should probably just take the deal and run with it. Heather Mills is the best example of what happens when you try to take your idolized husband to the cleaners and end up begging for loose change.

Yes, even Heather Mills and Paul McCartney can't get through a holiday without letting off a little steam. The first in a series of arguments over the holiday period began when they met to hand off their daughter. Heather accused her husband of stringing out the proceedings in order to "starve her out".

Heather currently is in a very tight money situation, especially since her former lawyers have come knocking for nearly $4 million in unpaid bills. She was appalled by the amount of money he spent on his daughter's holiday gifts, reportedly blowing nearly $30,000 on new clothes, music gear, and Barbie dolls, among other items. His choice of gifts also rankled her, as she told him that Barbie wasn't an appropriate role model and that he was trying to pressure their daughter into a music lifestyle rather than letting her make her own decisions and be a "free spirit".

Other angry words were exchanged, with Heather saying he'd ruined Beatrice's holiday by not settling yet, and Paul criticizing Heather for her media run on "GMTV" and "Good Morning America". He apparently also advised her to re-mortgage her $7 million home when she began talking about her money situation and how she currently could not afford good lawyers. She insinuated that things could turn ugly, and he said it had already gone too far and there was no going back now.

Heather apparently threatened to take Beatrice and move to the United States, where she says she's been getting offers. Oddly enough, if she has been, why isn't she here trying to earn some cash to pay off her debts?

Let's face it, the pressure-cooker of their divorce is getting ready to blow sky high any day now, and it wouldn't surprise me if something drastic happened before the couple is due to appear in court in February.

Not-So-Happy Holidays For Duff's Dad

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Wed, 12/26/2007 - 11:00am
Hilary and Haylie Duff's parents probably won't be spending much of this festive time in one another's company, especially after the latest ruling in their ongoing divorce.

Daddie Duff was ordered to pony up $100,000 to estranged wife Susan for spousal support during the divorce proceedings. He's already been told to pay up another $100,000 for her legal fees, but has yet to do so.

The divorce apparently is due to Bob Duff's wandering eye and momma Duff's unwillingness to tolerate it, and rightfully so. Susan testified that she had been largely supported by her famous progeny over the past five years, and the judge did ask if they would continue to do so. Momma snapped back, stating that she was sure they would but it wasn't up to them to "pay for their father's philandering and divorce."

How awkward must that be? You gotta figure Dad probably wishes he hadn't hurt his financiers either. The two girls have already shown who they support, siding with their mother, though it isn't known if they will testify in the course of the proceedings.

So far the legal costs have been independently tabulated near $1 million, and from the looks of things this one might stretch out till next Christmas.

Heather Mills' Troubles Mount

Posted by Donna Carlisle on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 11:00am

Heather Mills evidently has a cash flow problem. Mishcon de Reya, the firm that represented her before reportedly dropping their media hungry client, is prepared to issue a writ to cover her debt to them. After a year and a half, Heather's bill comes to almost $4 million. And you thought your divorce attorney was expensive.

Apparently the firm did have an arrangement to recover her debt after her divorce had settled, but soon after dropping her, it became concerned about her ability to pay off the debt. If she's only awarded a nominal settlement, Mishcon fears she would take that money to cover other bills she's run up and leave the lawyers to pocket the expense.

That fear was encouraged as well by one of Mills' radio appearances in which she was questioned about parting company with the firm. She insisted on air that it was she who left, when according to many reports, and the interviewer, it was Mishcon who dropped her. Displeased, she ended the interview in a huff. This made the firm believe that she might attempt to dispute the debt.

Mishcon ought to know after working with her that Mills is a little bit off her rocker. Issuing the writ will ensure that Heather pay this debt off before she attempts to whittle away her other debts then claim bankruptcy when the lawyers come knocking.

Of course, this gives Sir Paul an even stronger hand. He can offer to cover the debt but give her a smaller settlement.

Just seems no matter what she does, Heather is harming her claims to the former Beatle's fortune at every turn. Click here for more.
